FOOD AND NUTRITIONAL SECURITY PROGRAMME

Programme summary: The aim of this programme is to enable communities in Dioceses take charge of their own development initiatives.  Over 40% of the Uganda’s population lives below the poverty line and there is need to raise awareness, boost creativity and improve living conditions.

Programme purpose: The programme aims to build capacities in areas like modern agricultural practices, effective land resource utilization, food processing, storage and marketing, entrepreneurship skills, environment conservation, gender equity and empowerment, sanitation and provision of safe and clean water.

Programme strategies:

-Establishing community contact teams.
-Mobilising and sensitizing communities on food and nutritional security.
-Training and equipping community based extension workers and trainers.
-Supporting community development initiatives through establishment of demonstration units and facilitation of exchange visits.
-Facilitating Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) in specific skills.
-Exchange visits.

Programme focus:

-Building capacities in crop and animal production.
-Stepping up understanding of entrepreneurship skills.
-Food and nutritional training programs
-Women empowerment programs.
-Promotion of effective land resource utilization.
-Provision of safe and clean water.
-Lobbying and advocacy.
